Shopify vs Magento Community Edition: Which fares better?

Magento and Shopify are two prominent brands racing to court retail stores and businesses. Both of them were started between 2004 and 2007. Both of them have re-shaped the retail space, taking in hundreds of thousands of stores and millions of customers. And both of them have established a global footprint and a brand-worth in billions.
