5 things that should be on your website redesign checklist to improve conversions

It doesn’t matter when your website was last updated; even websites that are a few months old can go outdated pretty quick. Without staying updated with the dynamically-altering landscape, getting your conversion rate where you want it to be is next to impossible.  This calls for a website redesign. Finding the proper balance and bringing together the right design elements that will translate into better conversions is a tricky business, but it’s not that difficult once you know what’s to be done.

To help you with the process, we’ve put together a 5-point website redesign checklist. Here’s the rundown:

#1) Place your CTA prominently

Your website pages comprise of several elements; from images to content to videos. Do not let the clutter mask what’s most important. Your Call-to-action buttons or CTA must be placed prominently, preferably within a container that draws visitor attention. Make sure your CTA passes the ‘squint test,' which implies that visitors should be able to identify the important parts of a website even while squinting.

#2) Point out your CTAs

Using directional cues to point out the CTAs is something that’s often missed during website design. You might have seen arrows pointing you towards ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Place an order.' There’s nothing wrong with that. The ultimate aim of your site is to convert visitors into buyers, so be obvious about it. Depending on the look and feel of the site, directional cues will have to be different.

#3) Using color theory

Believe it or not, a part of your conversions depend on what colors you use, and how you use them. For instance, yellow depicts optimism. If you use red instead of yellow on your CTA, it will send out a different message to your customers. Study color theory and add colors that are meaningful, yet appealing.

#4) Make the most of the whitespace

Utilize whitespace on your site. If you have some extra space on the bottom of the page, contemplate on placing a CTA there during the website redesign. This will help visitors get a clear path to conversions. However, do not overdo it and make optimum use of whitespace, so that the user doesn’t get distracted from the actual purpose of your site.

#5) Set a clear visual hierarchy

If your customer has to ask you where to find something on your site, it’s a clear indication that your site’s visual hierarchy is all wrong. You need to establish a robust visual hierarchy that’s self-explanatory to visitors.

4 Simple and Effective Tips to Help You Start a Successful Web Design Business

Do you want to make it big in the world of web design? It takes lots of effort and long-term investment to build a web design business that lasts. Great web designers aren’t born; they are made. You will need a great plan and the willingness to work long hours until you manage to make a name for yourself.

Here are some simple but useful tips that will help you build the business of your dreams:

Deliver what people want

People want results from web designers. It doesn’t matter how good you are at what you can do - unless you can produce results as that’s what people are paying for. Some designers try to sell clients a vision of what their website should be, instead of acting on the clients’ vision for their site.

Have a great website

Your website – where you advertise your services and put up your contact info – will be your main promotional vehicle. Prospective clients will navigate to your site to get an idea of what you are capable of doing. Make sure you create a stunning website that includes the latest design trends and showcases your talent in the best possible light.

Go where your customers are

You will have to work hard to find clients. You are more likely to get results if you hang out at places where your potential customers are likely to spend time – both in the real and virtual world. Join forums for web designers and network on sites for tech lovers. It doesn’t hurt to be active on social media sites like LinkedIn and Facebook either.

Build up a strong portfolio

Finally, you need to have a strong portfolio prepared which will help clients understand how you do your job, your process, your strengths and also how you successfully managed problems in the past.

It takes years to get a foothold in the industry. Also, web design is dynamic by nature, so you’ll have to stay on top of emerging trends to keep your offerings relevant to current times. Make sure you always stay open to learning new things, and you’ll never stray from the path to success.
